PHOENIX – In an interview earlier this month, Tramon Williams suggested he might never be the same because of the nerve damage he suffered in his shoulder in a collision with safety Nick Collins in the 2011 regular-season opener.

On Wednesday, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy expressed hope that the one-time shutdown cornerback can regain his 2010 form, when he was a dominant cover man during the Packers’ Super Bowl XLV title run.

Speaking to Baltimore radio station 105.7 FM, Williams admitted he wasn’t 100 percent last season, confessing, “I had nerve damage, so that’s one thing that takes time. It could be a year, it could be two years to come back. And it’s made progress, but it’s still coming. So it’s one of those deals to where my shoulder’s still getting better at this point. I’m still working on it and hopefully it comes all the way back this year.”

Williams’ teammates clearly knew there was something amiss with him, as they voted him the team’s Ed Block Courage Award winner for battling through the injury and facing opposing No. 1 receivers week-in and week-out.

McCarthy said at Wednesday morning’s NFC coaches breakfast at the NFL Meetings at the Arizona Biltmore hotel that the medical and coaching staffs will be meeting with Williams when the offseason program begins April 15 to determine where the shoulder is in the healing process.

“When he gets back, we’ve probably got to get on the same page with that, as far as where he is and the testing and so forth,” McCarthy said. “Tramon’s a pro. He sits in the front row, takes notes, goes about his business the right way every day. I know he wants to get back to the way he played in 2010. Because that was an incredible year for him personally.

“Once again, injuries are part of the game, and sometimes it takes a little longer than others.”

Green Bay Packer Tramon Williams joins The Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn and talks the Ed Block Courage Award.

Tramon talks about playing through injury to his shoulder throughout this season. He only missed one game due to injury, but could have very easily missed quite a few. He wanted to play through the pain to show his teammates and coaches that he was there for them. Tramon also says that playing injured, with nerve damage or not, you’re going to give up a little bit of throws. Which is something you never want to do, give up yards to a receiver.

Williams talks about the Packers last Superbowl run and the feeling of being apart of something like that. There are similarities to Green Bay’s run and the Ravens run. There were injuries and issues during the regular season but once the playoffs hit, they just won. Tramon Williams discusses the challenge of being the team to beat after winning the Superbowl and what the Ravens have in store for next year. The challenge is facing the effort from the opposition. Everyone’s going to prepare extra for the Ravens next season and play their best.

Charles Woodson, his former teammate, has been a big impact on Tramon’s career. He wishes to carry on his legacy and emulate his performance.

Because of course he was. Green Bay Packers cornerback Tramon Williams participated in a fashion show last night.

That’s right. Not “went to” a fashion show, but “participated in” a fashion show. We doubt anyone would confuse this fashion show with anything that happened at fashion week, though.

It was the All Day on the Runway Celebrity Fashion Show and it took place in Houston Saturday night. As you might have guessed by the name, it was organized by Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson to benefit his All Day Foundation.

In addition to Williams, Packers tight end Jermichael Finley was also supposed to be there. We’re not sure if he showed up though. We did throw in a few other photos of Peterson,Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, teammate J.J. Watt (who does not appear to be a natural on the runway), Terrell Owens and the Pistons’ Andre Drummond, all of which were at the event.

A real star-studded affair.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers don’t much care where they play, who they play or what anyone thinks of their chances to win.

Been there, done that. Any scenario you pick.

“I just think we have a certain confidence in each other,” James Jones said Tuesday. “No matter where we play, no matter who the team is, no matter how many great players they’ve got, we feel like with the team we have, we can compete with anybody. I’m not saying we’re going to go in there, we’re just going to blow people out. But we feel like we can compete with anybody, anywhere. We feel like a type of team build for that.

“Is it going to be easy? Not by any stretch,” he added. “We understand that, but we’ve got confidence in each other.”

The Packers (12-5) travel to San Francisco (11-4-1) on Saturday for an NFC divisional game. The 49ers are early three-point favorites after beating the Packers in Green Bay the first week of the season.

Not that the Packers mind.

While they don’t sit around the locker room reminiscing, the Packers have a quiet self-assurance that comes from knowing what they did two years ago. Needing to win their last two games just to get into the playoffs, the sixth-seeded Packers went on a run that carried them all the way to their 13th NFL title. They played every game on the road, and had to beat each of the NFC’s top three seeds just to reach the Super Bowl.

After that odyssey, anything seems possible.

“You try not to look in the past, but there are definitely things you can draw on from past years and that’s one of them,” offensive lineman Josh Sitton said. “It’s just something we know. We have confidence in each other, and we feel we could go win anywhere.”

Green Bay has already had to draw on that part of its DNA this year. Much like the 2010 team, the Packers have been hit hard by injuries. More than a dozen starters or projected starters have missed one game or more, including Charles Woodson (nine games), Greg Jennings (eight), Clay Matthews (four) and Jordy Nelson (four). The offensive line is on its fifth combination, and one of the starters, Don Barclay, was an undrafted rookie free agent.

Yet, just as they did in 2010, the Packers have persevered. After beginning the season 2-3, they’ve won nine of 11. Green Bay is now the healthiest it’s been all season, and it’s a much deeper team than it was at the start of the year because those youngsters who were shoved into bigger roles are now savvy veterans.

“That was a team (in 2010) that had its own set of adversity and things we had to get through together and learn together, learn how to win, learn how to win big games. We kind of went into the playoffs almost playing with house money, if you will, because we had to win our last two and nobody expected us to do a whole lot as a sixth seed,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “This year, we had to learn again how to win, how to grow as a team, how to deal with adversity. We had to have some young guys step up and play some roles at the beginning of the season that you wouldn’t have expected. We lost some veterans over the course of the season to injury, but have gotten some of those guys back.

“We’re in this position, we’re excited about it, we have a tough test in front of us. But anything can happen.”

And if people want to overlook the Packers, they’re OK with that.

Few folks outside of Wisconsin figured the Packers would make the playoffs after that 2-3 start, let alone win the NFC North. Yet the Packers dismantled the then-unbeaten Texans in Houston to start a five-game winning streak. After a dismal performance against the New York Giants, the Packers ripped off four more victories. And after blowing the No. 2 seed with a loss to Minnesota in the regular-season finale, the Packers overwhelmed the Vikings in last weekend’s wild-card rematch.

“Our players like that. I think they respond better when they’re disrespected,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “I’m sure we’ll get some of that this week, too, because we weren’t successful in the first week (against the 49ers).”

Whatever. Just tell the Packers who they’re playing and where, and they’ll take care of the rest.

“We just have total confidence in this team, period,” Tramon Williams said. “We’re just ready to go and take this next step, and hopefully we can get to where we want to go.”

“It’s going to be a physical battle,” Packers cornerback Tramon Williams told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “You know that’s what it’s going to be. It’s going to be a physical game. We don’t know how it’s going to unfold — but it’s going to unfold physically. We know that.”

Williams disagrees with the popular perception that Green Bay will lean on quarterback Aaron Rodgers to score a waterfall of points while the defense simply hangs on for dear life.

“When people talk about the Packers, the first thing people say is, ‘They have a high-powered offense’ and things like that,” Williams said. “But we’re a physical team.”

The Packers displayed that in Saturday’s wild-card win over the Vikings. Green Bay went into the game intent on winning the battle at the line of scrimmage and shutting down Adrian Peterson. They succeeded relative to their previous attempts, holding the running back to 99 yards on the ground.

The 49ers are a bruiser of a team. San Francisco loves to slam the ball out of power formations behind one of football’s most punishing lines. Green Bay will be tested on that front.

Playing on the road doesn’t help the Packers, of course, but cutting their teeth against the Vikings – and erasing last year’s bad playoff memories — might have been more valuable than a week of sitting around, wondering what’s next.

We are happy to announce #38 Tramon Williams from the Green Bay Packers has been voted by his teammates to receive the 2012 Ed Block Courage Award recipient.

Each year, the Ed Block Courage Awards honors those National Football League players who exemplify commitments to the principles of sportsmanship and courage. This award is unique in that the recipients are selected solely by a vote of their teammates. Every fall all thirty two teams conduct a vote which results in each team selecting their Ed Block Courage Award recipient for the year.

The Ed Block Courage Award recipient symbolizes professionalism, great strength and dedication. He is also a community role model. With this honor, he enters into an association which contrasts his fierce profession by becoming a major component of the Courage House National Support Network for Kids. He becomes an Ambassador of Courage for victims of abuse, violence and neglect.

The Ed Block Courage Award recipient will be identified as a team player in helping abused children and families in crisis.

The Courage Award has become one of the most esteemed honors bestowed upon a player in the NFL, especially since the recipient is selected by his peers.
