Arizona Cardinals’ Tramon Williams ready to step in for Justin Bethel

October 17, 2017

As he speculated following Sunday’s game, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians again went on record as saying the Cardinals might make a change at right cornerback. Justin Bethel is getting beat too often, he said, that it may be time to move veteran Tramon Williams into the starting mix.

Asked whether Williams has shown enough to warrant the promotion, Arians on Monday simply said, “Yes.”

Asked if the change would be made for Sunday’s game in London against the Rams, he wouldn’t commit.

“We’ll see. We’ll see,” Arians said. “He’s got to play more.”

Williams came up with a fourth-quarter interception of a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass at the Tampa Bay 1-yard line that led to Adrian Peterson’s second rushing touchdown of the game. The 11-year veteran, who won a Super Bowl title with the Packers, was inactive in one game and didn’t play in another leading up to Sunday’s win.

“I came here to play,” Williams said. “We’ve got a good group of veterans, guys who can play all over the field, so hopefully I can be utilized somewhere. For a guy that’s used to playing, it’s one of the most difficult things (to not play) but you have to maintain your professionalism and come to work and continue to prepare like you’re going to play.”
