Tramon Williams hopes to sign with team before start of season

June 23, 2017

Tramon Williams played eight seasons with the Packers before spending two seasons with the Browns.

Tramon Williams played for the Cleveland Browns the last two seasons, but he did most of his damage with the Green Bay Packers as he was a member of the franchise from 2007-2014. Now Williams is a free agent and he told NFL Sirius XM Radio he hopes to sign with a new team before the start of the 2017 season.

“We talked to quite a few teams, but all and all, I feel like I’m in a position to where I can control kind of what I want to do,” he said. “I’m really excited about that. I’m ready to get to one of these teams and help out. And the team that I’m look for is going to be a team, obviously, that is stable and wants to win, so that’s kind of what I’m looking for at this point.”

The Browns released Williams back in February despite having only one year left on his three-year contract. Because of the organizations’s lack of consistency, Williams wanted out of Cleveland as soon as the 2016 season was over.

The Packers are now in the offseason and there’s a lot of work to be done to get ready for next season. Make sure you’re in the loop – take five seconds to Sign up for our FREE Packers newsletter now!

“From the start of training camp to the beginning of the season, they were going in a different direction,” Williams said. “And it came a point during the season to where I wanted to be released. That’s why we got released because it wasn’t a stable spot. It’s not a stable spot. You don’t know who’s going to be the coaches from year to year, and I didn’t know that so I didn’t want to be one of those veterans who is stuck in a spot and at the end of the day, I’m not going to be able to get a job because I was on a bad team. That’s why I wanted to get out of there.”

Because the Packers are looking for more help at the cornerback position, it wouldn’t hurt for them to kick the tires with Williams. He knows Dom Capers system and the Packers brought back Davon House who previously played for them from 2011-2014. So if the Packers are going to sign one more free agent before the season begins, it would not be a surprise if Williams is wearing green and gold by August.
